About Point Periodontics

Meet Dr. Jennifer Anderson

Dr. Jennifer Anderson completed her undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech in 2002, earning a Bachelor of Science summa cum laude. She then completed her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY in 2006. Following dental school, Dr. Anderson was selected to attend the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio 3-year residency to earn her Certificate in Periodontics and her Master of Science degree in 2009.

Dr. Anderson served as a periodontist in the United States Navy from 2009 to 2013, earning the rank of Lieutenant Commander. She had the privilege to work with the Marine Corps while stationed in Okinawa, Japan for 2 years and then returned to provide care at Naval Station Norfolk.

Dr. Anderson is board-certified and has been a proud Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology since 2010. She is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Academy of Osseointegration, the Southern Academy of Periodontology, the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, and the Peninsula Dental Society.

In The Community

Dr. Anderson is a proud volunteer for Mission of Mercy in Virginia.  The Mission of Mercy (MOM) projects are conducted in identified, underserved areas of the state where there are not enough dental practitioners to adequately address the oral health needs of the community.

An estimated 3.8 million Virginians – more than 47% of our total population – do not have dental insurance according to the Virginia Health Care Foundation. Sixty-nine (69) localities in the Commonwealth have no dental safety net provider. Of the 67 localities that do, many of the clinics operate on a part-time basis and are overwhelmed by the number of calls for help. Without access to affordable dental care, many people — especially those who are low-income, underinsured, disabled or seniors — are left to suffer pain, discomfort, and embarrassment with nowhere else to turn. To address the overwhelming need for access to free oral health care, Dr. Terry Dickinson, former executive director of the Virginia Dental Association, created the Mission of Mercy (MOM) program in 2000 to provide high-quality dental care for underserved Virginians. The MOM program operates mobile clinics in strategic locations across the State, providing preventive, restorative, and surgical dental treatments to more than 2,000 low-income individuals each year.
